Life in the Country

September 2004

Our first house was dedicated on June 20th at our Grand Open House Sunday.  The family packed up all their things in the little rented apartment and has now moved in to their new home in the country.  Life in the country is a lot different for everybody and adjustments are still being made.

                        The boys wait for mom & dad to serve their first meal in their new home.

Not having a store around the corner to pick up groceries or school supplies is much different.  However, the advantage of having lots of space to play without the fear of the busy highway and strangers is much, much better for every one.

 One of the best parts of living in the country is taking care of the garden, helping to watch and feed the cattle and horse.  The newest project is taking care of the 100 baby chickens (see photo).

                                                   Gladis, Ricky and Dianna help Lorena feed our 4 day olds

A nice gift of new hand made quilts is a great source of pride for all the kids as shown in the following picture.  The quilts were made by some very kind ladies from the church of Christ in Farmington, Arkansas.

The big news:

Our next house parents have now arrived from La Paz, Bolivia.  Hugo & Jenny Sandoval have four precious children; Patricia, Pamela, Andres and Luzmila as pictured below;

The Sandovals are graduates of the Quito School of Biblical Studies and have been working with the church in La Paz, Bolivia since completing their studies.  Hugo has a farm background and really enjoys being able to train children in farm responsibilities.  They immediately proved their abilities in taking over the care of the family while Martin, Lorena & Darwin took a well deserved summer break before school starts.  Hugo’s previous experiences in preaching over the radio have made him a great leader of nightly devotionals with the children.  He is always asking lots of questions and is very good at getting everyone involved in singing.

Construction Progress:

Construction continues on the corner building that we call the apartment tower.  It is being built over the cistern and will become the storage place for prepared food as well as raw and frozen food, a laundry mat as well as a small apartment space with sleeping loft.  It will be first occupied by Hugo, Jenny and family while the next house is being constructed.

Thank You for your continued prayers in behalf of Hacienda de Esperanza!
